UP by Pixar
Just finished watching UP by Pixar and let me just say, they have hit another one out of the park.

UP is a very charming, life-affirming film that viewers young and old will find delightful. I also highly recommend that, if possible, the movie be watched in a theater equipped for 3-D viewing.

One of the many things I love about the movie is it's protagonist, a septuagenarian by the name of Mr. Carl Fredrickson (voiced by Ed Asher).

In our youth-obsessed culture, I find it refreshing to have a hero, that, while elderly, is still full of life. Besides, heros come in all ages, shapes and sizes, an important message for young and old alike.

The plot of the movie is simple, Mr. Fredrickson, a retired balloon salesman, decides to honor his late wife's wish to travel to South America.

His method of travel? His home held aloft by thousands of colorful balloons of course! Along the way he discovers a stowaway in the person of a young scout named Russell.

To tell more of the plot would give the movie away, but let's just say that both Mr. Fredrickson and Russell have the adventure of a lifetime.

All of the hallmarks of other Pixar films are here: cutting edge animation (with the addition of 3-D no less!), memorable new chararcters, and a plot that often pulls on the heart-strings.

However, one of the minor drawbacks to the film is that some of the plot's themes will go over many younger viewer's head.

Some of the younger children at the viewing I attended grew a little restless during the more quieter moments in the film.

All in all, this is another very engaging and entertaining movie with something for the entire family.

5 out of 5 digger shovels.

Being a 3D animator myself, I really want to see this. The Pixar movies always inspire me in more ways than one, to be a better animator and the story/presentation!

No spoilers, but how much is the dog with the talking collar in the movie? Smile

The dog plays a MAJOR role in the movie!
