I'm sure most of you have heard about the SciFi Channel changing its name to SyFy . Just wanted to hear what some people have to say about this. Don't know if Aaron mentioned it on the show, because I am two shows behind right now. To me, this is about the most inane brand reimaging I have ever heard of.

It's just a new name. It's like when Spike became Spike from whatever channel they used to be, I can't even remember anymore. Of course that is a more dramatic name change than What SciFi is changing into Syfy (lower case 'f' according to the Syfy Twitter account FYI). It's just a name.

On twitter, a person made a good observation that by changing the network's name and branding to SyFy, they would rank higher on the search engines.

It probably isn't the main reason, but that still is an astute observation.

Bottom line, I don't like it, but will get used to it in time.

Spike was originally The Nashville Network.

I don't care for the spelling change but then it's not like I watch the channel anyway so who cares what I think Big Grin

To me it all depends. If this is a way to cut out the last sparse bits of actual Science Fiction from their lineup, then I hate it. If it's actually a way to show up on searches better and increase their visibility so they can start getting more viewers and put better Science Fiction on the air, then I'm for it.

This is all said as someone who doesn't have cable and only watches whatever's on Hulu or network sites.
