I liked the 80's Transformers movie, in fact I own it !Big Grin

I was really disappointed by the first movie, I hated all the teen angst, honestly who cares, I assume thats not what most people went to see, for me the movie is much like it's young stars - pretty to look at but without substance.

A usless piece of Trivia, I live in the same town Rachel ( the hacker chick ) Taylor comes from.

Okay, hate was too strong a word. More disappointment than hate. It could have been a bit more than a brainless popcorn film. Better Transformer stories do exist. I was kinda hoping for an entertaining, sci-fi war epic about two armies of alien, sentient beings battling for Earth's resources with humanity caught in the middle. Or an updated, newbie-friendly version of that storyline. Instead we got under-developed title characters; teen angst; a cliched secret government agency; and crass and out-of-place humor. From the trailers and what I'm hearing, the new movie seems to build on these elements and leave out what made those characters memorable.

I laughed, I cried and then realised the Eymorgs must have nicked me brain during the scene with Megan astride the bike or when getting out of the leathers, not sure whichSmile

It will make a good Blu-ray but I preferred the last movie and I was a little disappointed after listening to the GWC Transformers arc that RC was pretty much a background character while the pretty awful characterisation of the twins got serious screen time!

What 'prime said, except I am closer to hate for the first movie. I'll not go see the second one!

I'll second that, I won't say I'll never see the second one but I will make sure it dosen't cost me even one cent to do so, the first movie cost me far more than it was worth.

Spoilers Contained herein. Read at your own risk. I don't like what the spoiler tag does to the formatting.

The twins were an abomination to anything that has been shown to humans ever. They had ZERO redeeming qualities. Bay says "The Kids are going to love them." And this is what a lot of the movie feels like, playing to the 10 year olds, and then a bit for the dads having Meghan Fox running around in a magic strapy top that kept her dirty pillows securely in place. Though when I look back on the Dinobots from Gen 1, at least the twins spoke with fairly better sentence structure.

I will say the cinematography was exponentially better. The robot fight scenes were framed a lot better to actually show off the robots as they twisted and turned, and punched the crap out of each other. I'm one of the few folks that really digs on the new Transformer designs. I have the Gen 1 season 1 DVD set, and the magic shape changing is pretty ridiculous. Megatron shrinking down to the size of a handgun never made any sense to me.

This is the Bad Boys 2 of Transformers. It is louder, more stuff explodes, it is flashier, and there is even a poster of BB2 on Shia La Boufe's dorm room wall.

A couple points that really irked me, besides Jon Turturro's ass in a thong....Devastator's Balls, so he used construction vehicles in his make up, and he used 2 wrecking ball cranes, where else is he going to utilize the wrecking balls. Why in a pointless comedic scene with Turturro in the midst of a climactic battle. Bumble Bee not talking. Didn't he have his voice module fixed at the end of the first flick? Or is this just a way for the studio to backhandedly promote it's other properties in quick soundbites...LeBoufe yelling Bumble Bee, B, and Optimus unintelligibly every time he see's a Decepticon.

Besides the HUGE plothole of using the allspark shard to resurrect Jetfire instead of Optimus, I enjoyed the two and a half hour long flick, and it was a long 2.5 hours. Seeing and hearing Soundwave was utter fanboy joy. Then seeing his different minions go down to Earth was more joy. I still prefer the first flick though, but do plan on owning this one on BluRay.

I don't mind popcorn films. But I also like to keep my brain on. It is really hard to reboot, I'm still running 3.1

Spoilers here too:
I agree with everything you said Jeff. I like the transforming scenes too & the new designs, but he does go a bit too fast with the camera work sometimes. And why did Shia need that special whateveritwas when they were able to wake up the other baddie with the one Allspark sliver? Wasn't the other one in her pack or pocket (or someone's) the whole time? It certainly seemed to wake up all the kitchen gizmos just fine. And why did it make them all immediately bad little transformers?

I'm not much of a fan of either actor to top it all off. I mean come on! Shia's character is going to have Meghan's character all over him? I don't think so. I guess that's for all the geeks (& dads), hmmm? I didn't care for Shia as the Sam character much in the first movie either, so nothing's changed there. I wish they would've picked someone else. I could've done with a little less noise too - it was like they took all the rather bad parts of the first one & just amplified them. I liked the first one better, that's for sure. And it was SO long! Why did it need to be 2.5 hours? They could've easily done this movie whittled down to about 100 mins or so. All that aside though, it's not a bad FX summer popcorn movie - I do wish they would've thrown out all the teen angst too.

And major product placement! I was used to the car, but this had stuff all over the place. I didn't know Webex was available to personal use! LOL - I thought it was for businesses & stuff. It's on the screen when she gets stood up during their first online 'date'

I'm looking forward to GI Joe - I'm really hoping they can make a slightly more adult film out of this one than T2RF was...

I think with the all spark turning things "bad" it's more that they don't have a conscious (sp?). They are like 2 year olds. They've not been given the choice as Jet Fire put it, you can choose Autobot or Decepticon.

RE: Transformers sequel
Well, I just saw Transformers 2.

It was a decent popcorn flick, but it has a ton of sex humor and one f-bomb... this is still based on a cartoon and toy line, right?

I think the movie did a poor job of trying to be both for kids and adults.

On the plus side, I loved the scenes with Megan Fox running in slow motion. Big Grin
